Seferino Albarez was serving in Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment when he died on June 13th, 1968. Alpha Company was on a reconnaissance in force patrol and had departed Firebase 29 early in the morning on the 13th. As the company was moving up the southern slope of Hill 990, Seferino collapsed and died before he could be evacuated for medical treatment. Cause of death was unknown, but severe heat stroke was suspected. He died 19 days after arriving in Vietnam.

Biography
Seferino Albarez Jr. was born on February 24th, 1967 in Lockhart, Texas. He was the oldest of five children (Seferino Jr., Margarita, Mary Alice, Simon & Carlos) born to Seferino Sr and Petra (Elias) Alvarez. He lived his entire life in Lockhart, graduating from Lockhart High School in 1967. He was the Senior Manager and a Senior Band Leader in the Lockhart Lions Marching Band, in which he played the trombone.

Services
PFC Albarez’s remains were escorted to his hometown of Lockhart, Texas by Staff Sergeant Benny Garcia. The funeral and burial with full military honors at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery took place at 1145 hours on June 25, 1968.
